Of Boulder life and spring blooms

Just as my friends and family were reporting their first and second doses of the COVID vaccine, these flowers bloomed in our front yard. Do you think they are iris? I can't tell.
It’s been about seven months of The Weed and me calling Boulder home.
In that time, we’ve learned a lot about geese (Did you know the average goose poops 3 pounds daily? Trust me. I’ve seen it.); we’ve encountered some quirky neighbors; we’ve ordered new furniture that took months to make the scene; we’ve named the resident squirrels; and, we’ve slowly started to feel more at home.
Still, nearly every day, The Weed and I learn something new about the house on Meadow Glen Drive and life in Boulder.
For example, we recently realized the kitchen cabinets in the house are equipped with undermount lights. I guess I never looked beneath the cabinets.
The bathroom (bathtub/shower) hidden behind a bookcase on the first floor has a lightbulb that will need to be replaced someday. We will have to figure out how to do that since the previous owners installed the bookcase in a most sturdy/unmovable manner.
The juniper bushes shielding our home from the pond are scheduled to be yanked out soon. They are unruly and home to spiders, marauding geese, and raccoons. It’s time for them to go.
The newfound shortcut to the nearby breakfast burrito restaurant is short and sweet, ensuring a bounty of some of the best burritos this side of Juarez. (The newfound shortcut to Target also is pretty sweet!)
And, earlier this week, a handful of pretty purple flowers started sprouting in the front yard.
Just as my friends and family were reporting their first and second doses of the COVID vaccine, these flowers bloomed as if to remind me that we’re all going to be able to branch out again in the coming months.
I sure hope so. It feels like we’ve been cooped up for a really long time. Too long.
