Of Mondays, omens, and the dead fish in the yard

Not really the start of a new week I was looking forward to.
‘Well, that can’t be good,’ I said to myself this fine Monday morning looking out my bedroom window at a dead fish eternally resting on a sheet of ice in the backyard pond.
‘Some sort of omen,’ I thought, wondering what fresh hell a dead fish in the yard could cosmically connote.
At this point, I should mention I’m pretty open to receiving what the universe puts out there for my taking, looking for signs and signals in most situations.
I don’t consider myself terribly ‘woo-woo’ about it like some people. That said, I do have healing crystals in my office.
My abalone shell and Palo Santo smudge sticks have been used several times, much to The Weed’s disliking.
I wear an ocean jasper pendant that is said to be a protective crystal. It’s supposed to help connect me to the spiritual realm and promote feelings of peace and calm.
And, earlier this year, I read a few books about how our dead relatives can communicate with us once they’ve moved on.
The books were interesting reads and helped me come to terms with some of the grief I carry following my dad’s death.
(If you’re interested, the books are: The Light Between Us: Stories from Heaven. Lessons for the Living and Signs: The Secret Language of the Universe, by Laura Lynne Jackson.)
So, back to the dead fish that as of this writing remains unmoved and untouched by the army of neighborhood crows. Even the geese are giving it the side eye.
According to my Internet research, dead fish symbolize a few things:
• Loss
• Failure
• Missed Opportunity
That dear reader is a trifecta of bummer to start the week with.
I’m told I should not panic, however, because there are silver linings to these symbols. For instance with loss, accepting and acknowledging a loss can ensure I’m a stronger person.
As for failure, I’m told to remember the feeling of failure will pass and I can learn lessons from what happened.
And, for missed opportunity, I should say ‘yes’ to more invitations in the hopes of not missing something I might regret.
Those all seem like pretty heavy lifts for a Monday. Still, I’m not one to dismiss a dead fish in the yard.

Even the geese are steering clear of the dead fish.
