Of window gazing and being on the lookout

Luka isn't the only one staring out the windows these days.

There’s been a lot of window gazing at Casa de Weed lately.

First, Colorado’s spring became winter and then spring and then winter again. Leaving us to watch heavy, wet snow bend trees and pile up everywhere.

Second, I had a huge work assignment that kept me in my office staring at spreadsheets for the better part of two weeks. Dear reader: I detest (not a strong enough word!) spreadsheets! Thankfully, The Weed knows some hacks that made my life a bit better. Still, as someone more comfortable with the Oxford comma than Ctrl H, reviewing thousands of documents and assigning search-engine optimization tags was not on my bingo card for much of March. When I needed a break, I looked outside to ensure the geese who want to nest in the yard were nowhere to be seen.

Finally, it’s starting to feel like time to put plants in the ground. I don’t remember a year when I so badly wanted to get outside and get my hands dirty planting tomatoes and basil. Recently, I caught myself staring out at our small flower garden, plotting where the begonias will go.

And, don’t get me started on the 40 seed packets sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be put to use for seasonal blooms around the house. I keep telling myself, ‘It’s too early!! It’s too early!’ However, this weekend we might just see 60-degree temperatures and I might just be outside moving snow to drop some seeds in the ground.

Speaking of being on the lookout, The Weed and I are in the preliminary stages of a home renovation that will include knocking down an obstructive wall, redesigning a staircase, and installing large bifold doors to the patio.

To say we are in the preliminary stages is, well, generous. We met with a neighbor who works in home remodels who suggested a few companies to contact. After some calls and emails, that’s as far as we’ve gotten. No response from those we’ve contacted.

So, if you know of anyone in the renovation business itching to knock down a wall, redesign a staircase, and install bifold doors, please send them my way.

These days, I’m on the lookout in more ways than one.

P.S. Also, if anyone knows a sure-fire way to get out of jury duty, I could use an assist there. A serious-looking summons arrived yesterday.
